To start the discussion I have outline a few pointers about what documents the service industry should be considering making available in alternative formats.

To conform to Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) it is advisable that all businesses that offer direct services to the general public know that they are legally obliged to offer information in an alternative format if requested. For Service Industry includes

Hotels, Restaurants, B&B’s, Cafés etc

Menus
Your amenities and where to find them
Important safety information, including fire evacuation information
How to operate the television, telephone and other room amenities
Information about surrounding attractions and restaurants
What cab/taxi services are available
Where to order takeaways
Where lifts/elevators and public restrooms are

Staff procedures Handbook
Operating Instruction
Other documents specific to your business

Invoices Letters/correspondence
Large Print - Methodology

For braille: We use matt white or matt cream to avoid light glare. We use coloured pages between sections as dividers. Headings and paragraphs are left justified. We will usually comb bind our large print documents to enable the reader using a CCTV to keep the publication flat on the moving camera board.

For Large Print: When producing large print on both sides of the page, we use 120 plus GSM paper to avoid image bleeding. All Braille and Large Print documents can be provided in: English and Welsh Other languages upon request.
